Terms of service

These terms cover your use of Orbit, at orbitplaces.com and in the Orbit app for iPhone. By using Orbit, you agree to them.

Your account

You need to be at least 13 (16 in the European Economic Area and the UK) to make an account. Keep your sign-in secure, and tell us if someone else gets into your account. You’re responsible for what happens under your handle.

Some handles are reserved, such as the names of cities, countries and Orbit itself. We may reclaim or change a handle that impersonates someone, misleads people about who runs it, or is reserved.

Your content

The places, lists, trips, notes and photos you add are yours. You give Orbit permission to store them and to show them to the people your sharing settings allow, so the service can work. That permission ends when you delete them or your account, except for copies other people have already saved from lists you shared.

What’s not allowed

Orbit has no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. That means no:

  • Sexual or violent content, hate speech, or anything that threatens, harasses, bullies or demeans someone.
  • Spam, scams, or misleading content.
  • Posting someone else’s home address or private location without their permission.
  • Posting anything illegal, hateful, or harassing, or anything that infringes someone else’s rights.
  • Scraping or bulk-copying other people’s Orbits, or trying to see places that weren’t shared with you.
  • Pretending to be someone else, or taking a handle to squat on it or sell it.
  • Interfering with the service or other people’s use of it.

We may remove content, and suspend or close accounts, that break these rules.

Reporting and blocking

You can report a person, list, trip, place, photo or note: tap or click Report on it (in the app, on someone’s profile it’s under ···, and in a trip, press and hold). We review every report within 24 hours and remove content, or the person who posted it, when they break these terms. The person isn’t told who reported them. You can also block someone from their profile. They won’t be able to see your Orbit, and you’ll stop following each other. For anything urgent, email support@orbitplaces.com.

Places and other services

Places on Orbit are people’s own picks. They can be out of date: a place may have closed, moved or changed. Check before you go. Links to Google Maps and other services take you to those services, and their own terms apply.

The service

Orbit is provided as is. We work to keep it running and your data safe, but we can’t promise it will always be available or error-free. To the extent the law allows, Orbit isn’t liable for indirect or consequential losses from using it.

Ending your account

You can stop using Orbit at any time, and delete your account and everything in it from Settings, on the site or in the app. If you can’t sign in, email support@orbitplaces.com. How we handle your data is in the privacy policy.

Changes

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we’ll update the date above and tell signed-in users before it takes effect.
